A Fish decoy is an object that is used to attract a predator fish as well as sturgeon and other species while ice fishing with spears. The most common Forms of fish decoys are weighted and balanced and attached to a line. The fisherman will sit in their ice shanty/dark house, attach the decoy to a jigging stick, shanty roof or stationary object. The fisherman will then "swim" the decoy to attract a fish close enough to spear.
The Art of fish decoy carving dates back to when Native Americans would often carve their decoys out of antlers and bone.
